[NEWS] Japan government to share free COVID-19 vaccine to all citizens

The Japanese government has announced that under a bill passed on Wednesday, December 2, all of its citizens will get free coronavirus vaccines as the nation fights record numbers of regular cases. The bill, which specifies that all vaccination expenses for Japan's 126 million citizens would be covered by the government, was approved by the upper house of parliament, having passed the strong lower house.

The reports state that Japan has reportedly received Covid-19 vaccines from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer for 60 million people and from the biotech firm Moderna for another 25 million people. It has also been announced that 120 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine will be

given to the world.

The passage of the bill comes two weeks after Japan's prime minister said the country was on "maximum alert" over the virus, and hospitals are on the verge of collapse as medics warn. Since the first case was confirmed, Japan has reported about 2,100 deaths with over 150,000 cases. But a third wave of the disease is now facing it, posting unprecedented numbers of regular infections nationally in recent weeks.

Yuriko Koike, Tokyo's governor, urged people to stop non-essential outings and requested companies serving alcohol to shut down early.
