On Wednesday 9th of September 2020, 24-year-old Bola Aseyan was arraigned by police in front of Yaba Magistrate Court on a five-count indictment bordering on a false accusation, criminal character assassination, and insulting publication likely to result in a breach of peace. The court appearance followed a raging dispute of a
series of accusations and counter-allegations made by the aforementioned Bola Aseyan against UK-based medical doctor and Twitter influencer, Dr. Olufunmilayo Ogusanya, whom she had accused on social media (Twitter ) of rape. Regarding Bola's claims, there were criticisms against Dr. Olufunmilayo by countless individuals and she subsequently disclosed the issue to the UK Police as well as the UK medical doctors' professional body, the GMC.The UK police then made their investigation and acquitted Dr. Olufunmilayo while the GMC also conducted its investigation in partnership with the police and concluded that the case had nothing to do with professional misconduct when it followed up on the accusation of rape. The case was later passed down to Bar Beach Police Station in Lagos where Bola was invited over but she took her time to honor the invitation. Bola finally honored the police invitation and went there with her lawyer and all the evidence was shown to her but she nevertheless made attempts to stop the case by falsely accusing police of damaging her phone among other charges and even calling for the case to be moved before eventually arraigned on Wednesday in a BG / C36B matter.
The charge in the count against Bola was that, between 29 June and 1 July at No 12A, Molade Okoya Thomas, Adeniyi Jones in the Magisterial District of Lagos, connived to cause serious damage to Dr. Olufunmilayo Ogusanya 's identity, reputation, and profession by a false publication on social media that labeled him as a rapist, thus committing a crime punishable under Section 413 of Lagos State 2015 Criminal Law. Miss Aseyan was detained in Panti custody, where she was required to undergo COVID-19 tests before being sent to jail if she fails to meet her bail requirements. The case has been adjourned till the 14th of October for another hearing.
