[NEWS] Man in Jigawa reportedly strangles 17-month old stepson to death

Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps operatives in Miga, state of Jigawa have arrested a 40-year-old Usman Sama'ila for allegedly murdering his stepson, Adamu Gambo, who was 17 months old. A statement issued by NSCDC's Jigawa command spokesperson SC Adamu Shehu said the

accused claimed to have taken his stepson to farmland where he was strangled and suffocated him before he died. 

He explained that the accused was trying to conceal his despicable act but unfortunately for him, his second wife, Mrs. Bahayura, found out and reported to the police. Mrs. Bahayura had married the father of the deceased (Gambo father) before she got married to the suspect (Usman) after the termination of her first marriage.

After extensive questioning by the Command's Intelligence and Investigation unit, the NSCDC spokesperson said Sama'ila admitted to having committed the crime, saying the kid was a diversion and threat to his love life. The defendant said he wanted his wife to give him all of her love and care. NSCDC's Jigawa command spokesperson SC Adamu Shehu said no sign of mental wellbeing has been shown by the suspect (Usman) but he will be taken to a psychiatric facility for a proper mental examination.
